OVERVIEW
VEIL OF VENGEANCE
By Larry Tebo
A Vietnam veteran, Larry Tebo drew on his experience as a Hawk missile specialist in the U.S. Army for nine years as well as his lifelong study of history, geography and military tactics to write this fast-paced foreign intrigue novel set in Iran in 1998. Although the manuscript was completed before the pivotal tragedy of September 11, the story accurately reflects today’s world, with its intrigues, tensions and uncertainty.
Larry’s softer, romantic side is revealed in the loving and supportive relationship that develops between the beautiful and lethal heroine Terra Tehrani, daughter of a legendary Iranian general, and American David Connors, her former karate instructor at Michigan State University. David takes on a dangerous CIA assignment halfway around the world to be near Terra. His mission is to find the terrorist group seeking to purchase a nuclear suitcase bomb, locate their base, and discover in what country they plan to detonate the bomb.
Combining their skills and resources, Terra and David work together to unravel and foil the diabolical plot that could catapult the world into a nuclear nightmare. Meanwhile, Terra, driven by guilt over her role in her sister’s death, is on a personal mission of vengeance that she fears may turn David away from her.
The complex plot, which features interplay between agents and operatives from several countries, is not just non-stop, frenetic action—although there’s enough of that to satisfy. The author excels in detailing the layout of the hidden base, David’s tactics in locating it, several fire-fights, and the final assault on the base in a way that will ring true for those knowledgeable in military tactics and hold the interest of the casual reader.
The characters are multi-dimensional and engaging; readers begin to feel they know them, their families and friends. The playful banter between Terra and David lends a lighted-hearted touch that counterbalances the raw action and urgency of the characters’ missions. With the love story interwoven through the conflict, the story is equally appealing to men and women.
Veil of Vengeance is, above all, is a good and memorable read!
